FAQ

Installation + Setup

Q: What manual configuration is required when installing an iDyl?

A: None, the iDyl is plug and play.  If connecting to a LAN, the iDyl/Video Node is configured to use DHCP to allocate it's IP address.  A static IP address can be assigned if required via the TV interface.

Q:  How do I access the Advanced settings screen?

Q: How do I change IP/network configuration?

A:  An advanced settings screen (including network and log information) is hidden from the casual user.  To access it: Using the iDyl/Node/Video Node TV-interface, browse to 'Settings'.  Using the remote, click <Power>, then <2>.  This will jump to the Advanced Settings screen.

Q:  When I run a Room Commander for the first time, the rooms are listed as 'Room1', 'Room2', etc.  How do I change these to more relevant names.

A:  Click 'Options->Settings'.  Within this screen you can select any room name and change it.  You can also add or remove rooms (assuming your iDyl is capable of it).  Click 'Save Changes' when finished.  You will have to restart the Room Commander (or perform a soft-reset on a hand-held device) to see the changes.

Connecting Displays

Q: I have connected my iDyl to a TV via composite/S-Video, but nothing is showing.

A: Is it possible you connected the iDyl to the TV after it was turned on?  The iDyl must have all cables connected BEFORE powering on, otherwise it will not detect the display and initialize correctly.

Q: Can I connect multiple displays to the iDyl at the same time (ie. DVI + Composite/S-Video)?

A:  The iDyl TV-interface may display correctly, but playing DVDs and videos is known to cause problems.  You should only connect one display at a time to the iDyl.

Q: I have an iDyl connected to a plasma display using a DVI-HDMI cable, but I have a problem with the iDyl screen going black/dead when switching from iDyl to TV (or Sky or other input on the plasma), and back to the iDyl.  What’s going on?

A: There is a fundamental problem affecting all DVI enabled PC-hardware when connecting to HDMI displays, ie. This problem does not solely affect the iDyl.  In this situation, you can ‘force’ the iDyl to reinitialize its’ display by pushing Power twice on your IR remote. (Requires v2_54 or above).

Room Commander - Handheld Version

Q: After a soft reset, it takes several minutes to start the Room Commander.  Usually it's a lot quicker.  Why is this?

A:  Following a soft reset, the Room Commander has to re-process all track information stored on the iDyl.  Once it's done this, the Room Commander will open and close instantly.

Q:  Occasionally, when I change rooms in the Room Commander, or control the audio, nothing happens.  I need to push the button twice.  Why is this?

A:  The Room Commander communicates with the iDyl using UDP over Wi-Fi.  Basically speaking, messages aren't guaranteed to arrive at the other end, due to weak signal strength, etc.  If this is a persistent problem, you should ask your installer to check that there is good wireless reception around your house.  This will ensure that your Room Commander can communicate effectively with the iDyl.

Importing Video

Q: I've heard of software such as DivX which can compress my DVDs to save space.  How do I do this?

A: DF Solutions does not directly support 3rd party media encoding software.  You should refer to documentation of the relevant software you are using However, they following  on-line topic topic discusses the different types of software available and their pros/cons.
